Sixth review on " Studies for a Vortex " at The Noise Beneath The Snow . Thank you for the support. Maelstrom  might be the first and most appropriate word that comes to mind in regard to today’s offering.  Coming courtesy of Malignant Records is the new release from Metadevice, Studies For A Vortex. Andre Coelho, the individual behind Metadevice is also a founding member of the now-defunct Sektor 304 as well as a contributor to Beyond Enclosure .  His work has been described as “a cacophony of factory dirge, alienating drones and insectile frequencies, often with distorted rhythms and resonating clangs, and vocals that range from spoken word to more aggressive and in your face.” Studies For a Vortex contains 10 tracks all of which are relatively short pieces; just right to take the listener on concise, yet effective trips.  There’s a lot going on in this release both stylistically and on an auditory level.  There are moments when Metadevice ...

 METADEVICE "Ubiquitarchia" Released by Malignant Records / 2020 Tape edition coming out on September 18th. https://metadevice.bandcamp.com/album/ubiquitarchia https://malignantrecs.bandcamp.com/album/ubiquitarchia A quick follow-up to 2019’s Studies For a Vortex, composed during the quarantine months in Portugal. Gone are many of the “warmer” elements and the obvious human touch that comprised the full length debut - no scrap metal, no drums, and no vocals outside of the occasional samples. In its place, we’re confronted with 8 tracks of cold, synthesized throb and terminally doomed electronic currents, threaded with crackling skuzz, shuffling debris, and ominous interference. It’s a stripped down and despondent recording, about the loss of what we have as human beings, our capability to feel, experience and create, and all the more appropriate and befitting of current times.

Second review on " Studies for a Vortex " at Forest Punk  . Thank you for the support. Bruised and sullen death industrial power electronic Dark Ambient What’s a Dark Ambient best-of list without some malignant, malevolent post-industrial aesthetics? Not much, that’s what. Studies For A Vortex leans towards the industrial roots of Dark Ambient, in the early 80s, arc-welding harsh noise, power electronics, and throbbing beats, which are then tarred-and-feathered with ominous shadows and unholy atmospherics, all of which form a platform over which  Andre Coelho  spews his antisocial invocations and eulogies. Studies For A Vortex  is legitimately chilling. It sounds like some tortured outsider, living in some abandoned industrial space, sharpening their metal and honing their hatred for humanity in the dead of night. Are they Human? Demon? Machine? It won’t matter when yr tasting their steel.
